Refund & Return Policy

How Stittsworth Meats handles damaged, spoiled, or incorrect orders.

Overview

Stittsworth Meats ships fresh and frozen perishable meat products nationwide. Because of the nature of our products, our return and refund policy is structured differently from typical retail returns. We stand fully behind our quality and will make any order right that arrives damaged, spoiled due to our error, or with incorrect items.

All Sales Final on Perishable Goods

Because we ship perishable meat products, we are unable to accept returns of opened or consumed items. Once a package has been opened or the cold chain has been broken, the product cannot be resold or reused for food-safety reasons.

This is consistent with industry standard practice for direct-to-consumer perishable food shipments.

When We Make It Right

We issue full refunds or replacements (your choice) in the following situations:

  • Damaged in shipping — Your package arrives with broken vacuum seals, ruptured packaging, or damaged contents.
  • Spoiled due to a shipping error on our end — Insufficient dry ice, wrong shipping method selected, or a packing error caused the cold chain to break before delivery.
  • Incorrect items received — You received different products than what you ordered, or items were missing from your shipment.
  • Quality issues — Product arrives within the cold chain but has a quality problem that doesn’t meet our standards.

How to Report a Problem

Contact us within 72 hours of delivery:

Please include your order number and photos of the issue. Photos help us identify shipping route problems, packaging failures, or production issues so we can prevent them for future customers.

What We Don’t Cover

We are unable to offer refunds or replacements for:

  • Spoilage from failure to retrieve the package promptly — Packages left on a porch in summer heat for more than a few hours can warm beyond the cold chain. Please be home or arrange delivery for a day when someone can receive the package.
  • Incorrect shipping addresses entered during checkout. Please verify your address carefully before submitting.
  • Failed delivery due to incorrect customer information (apartment number, gate codes, etc.).
  • Personal taste preferences on products that arrived in good condition.
  • Opened or partially consumed products — Once opened, perishable food cannot be returned.

Order Cancellations

Orders can be cancelled at no charge any time before they enter our shipping queue. Once we have packed and shipped your order, it cannot be cancelled — but you can refuse delivery, and once the package is returned to us, we will refund your purchase minus the round-trip shipping cost.

To cancel an order, email sales@stittsworthmeats.com with your order number as soon as possible.

Smokehouse Club (Subscriptions)

Smokehouse Club subscription orders follow the same return and refund policy as one-time orders. You can pause, modify, or cancel your subscription at any time through your account — cancellations made before the next billing date take effect immediately and prevent the next charge.

Subscription orders already in process at the time of cancellation will ship and be billed as normal, but no further orders will be generated.

Retail Counter (Bemidji)

Purchases made in person at our retail shop (722 Paul Bunyan Dr NW, Bemidji, MN) follow standard butcher-shop policy. Unopened, unsold product can be returned within 24 hours with receipt. Custom-cut, special-order, and processed wild game items are non-returnable.

If We Can’t Reach Agreement

Our goal is to resolve every issue directly. If we’ve been unable to come to an agreement, you may dispute the charge with your payment provider. We ask that you contact us first — we’re a small family business and almost every issue we’ve had over the years has been resolved with a quick phone call.
